Hello! I'm Bobbie Goodridge owner of Grandma's Helpers, LLC. Yes, my name is really Bobbie, not Roberta or Barbara or ..... And Yes, I really am a grandma! I live in Henrietta with my husband Gary and our two Siberian Husky's, Dusty and Cynder. I'm originally from Colorado, but got transplanted about 18 years ago. Gary grew up right here in Henrietta and we both really love this area!
I have spent 25 years in "Corporate America". The major focus of those years was scheduling & planning, but I've also held positions as an Accounting Manager, Office Manager and Project Manager. All of these positions utilized my strong organizational skills and a thorough attention to detail. After being laid-off from Xerox, I decided to get serious about the business I'd been doing part-time for a number of years. It occurred to me that everything I had learned up to this point had prepared me to become the Sole Proprietor of Grandma's Helpers, LLC.
In November of 2003 I came to the realization that I wanted to formalize my business and in January of 2004, Grandma's Helpers, LLC was born. I knew starting a new household & estate sale business in a market where several successful companies already existed was a challenge. But I also knew that this is what I wanted to do "when I grow up". I was always hearing that if you followed your passion, everything else would fall into place. So, I am following my passion. I love this business!!
Several years ago, my parents decided to sell everything (really!) and travel in a 35 foot Motor Home. My mom had both hips replaced and just wasn't up to the task of total liquidation. There were so many emotional attachments, time commitments and ultimately frustration, I agreed to help. It was one of the most rewarding times of my life and the catalyst for my love of antiques and collectibles.
I have always been drawn to "older" things, so when my mom gifted to me my great-great grandma's hand sewn quilt, my great grandma's oak kitchen table and chairs, and my grandma's thread crocheted bedspread, the fire really began to burn! I began my self education in antiques and collectibles, doing endless research and creating my own research library. I started attending household sales, garage sales, and auctions. Sometimes I would buy something to research and resell, and sometimes I would just look, listen and learn. I continue to educate myself through personal research and the relationships I have begun to build with others with the same passion.
In the summer of 2003 I decided to pursue a professional certification as a Personal Property Appraiser. I began attending courses in Appraisal Studies sponsored by the American Society of Appraisers at the University of Tennessee.
Thank you so much for stopping by my website. I hope to see you at one of my upcoming sales!
